If you thought putting up a fence was as simple as that, putting up a fence, you’re unfortunately in for a very rude awakening. Before the proliferation of homeowners associations and local fence ordinances, you could just put up a fence if you wanted additional privacy or a clear demarcation of property lines. Now, you’re usually saddled with local fence ordinances at a minimum and sometimes you have to deal with HOA regulations, and perhaps even building permits!
Oh, and fences don’t just mean picket fences or barbed wire, they include anything that can be used as a partition or enclosure. Hedges are considered “fences” for this purpose so if you want to put up some shrubbery, you’ll have to check the rules first.

My neighbors put up a 6-8 ft wood picket fence. It extends all the way down my driveway. at the end of the fence is a city sidewalk. U can not see if someone is walking, riding a bike, etc. What are the rules and regulations on this?? thank you.
