One of the categories on the Everyday Law Journal is called Neighbors and this category of articles is meant to discuss all the issues involving your neighbors from boundary disputes to fences to trees to view obstruction and even noise violations. While you can often pick your home, you don’t have quite so much control over your neighbors and sometimes you’ll have to use the force of law on your side. This category is meant to educate you on what your rights are, what your neighbor’s rights are, and, in general, how disputes can be resolved amicably through relevant application of the law.
First and foremost, you should try to resolve things informally because anytime you involve lawyers and courts, you involve lots of money. Lawyers aren’t free, but a phone call or a conversation often is free (or pretty darn close). Also, a small issue can become a lot bigger if you start involving the courts – so try to resolve them without the courts and only turn to them if you have no choice.
